Good Hands (Haven Hill) Continuous Drive

Official: Ruth Graves, ADS (r) licensed judge, dressage and pleasure driving

Entry fee: $45
Entries now open and will close with 30 entries. Waiting list will be kept in case of cancellations. 
Grounds fee: $10 for equines not stabled
Stabling: $20/night includes shavings
RV hookups: $10/night, 4 available

Training and Preliminary

Horse, Pony, VSE, Longears
Singles, Multiples (Organizer reserves right to split or combine classes.)

Stabling opens at noon on Friday, November 2.

Current negative Coggins and Liability Release/s should be turned in with entry form. Checks should be made payable to Good Hands Training Center and mailed to: 7368 FM 2 Road, Navasota, TX 77868. Checks should not be made payable to Haven Hill.

General Rules and Information

Attire: Turnout will not be scored. All competitors must wear helmets during all sections of event and are encouraged to do so whenever driving or riding on carriage. Gloves and aprons are not required.

Whips: Failure to carry a whip in hand while driving may incur elimination from a section.

Bell boots, shin boots, protective hoof boots and leg wraps may be used in all sections.

Vehicle: Any type vehicles permitted, pneumatic tires are OK. Brake or breeching required. Organizers reserve the right to eliminate any unsafe equipment, animals, or drivers. Any competitor who removes a bridle while an animal is put to a carriage, or who leaves an animal unattended while put to, will be immediately eliminated without refund of fees.

Grooms: Pairs/Multiples and Junior drivers (any turnout) are required to carry groom(s) at all times. Singles are not required to have navigator/groom but, especially with 4-wheel carriages, should consider carrying one for safety in cones and obstacles.

Cantering is not allowed EXCEPT for Prelim only within the Sect.5 Obstacles. Breaks of pace will incur 5 penalties for each occurrence. (In a multiple turnout all horses must break for a penalty to be assessed.)  

Scoring/Awards: Points are given according to placings in each of the 5 sections (First = 8, second = 7 and so on regardless of number in class). Highest total points for all 5 sections in each class wins. Class ribbons. Also Best Of awards - Training Dressage, Training Cones, Prelim Dressage, Prelim Cones.

 


 

A Continous Drive with Five Sections

You will drive the Sections in order with a few minute break between each.

Safety check prior to Start of Sect.1. Placings in each section are based on fewest penalties in that section.

Section 1 - Pace (1-2k). Driver is given Optimum Time for Section. Any faster or slower will incur 1 penalty per second. 

Section 2 - Cones. Minimum clearance: Training 40cm, VSE 35cm; Preliminary 35cm, VSE 30cm. (Event reserves right to use standardized cones settings.) No time allowed. 3 penalties for knockdown. No cantering allowed for anyone. Placing based on fewest penalties, then fastest time.

Section 3 - Pace (1-2k). Driver is given Optimum Time for Section. Any faster or slower will incur 1 penalty per second. 

Section 4. - Dressage. ADS Training Test 2 and ADS Prelim Test 3. Presentation not scored. 

Section 5 - Pace with 3 Obstacles. (2-3k). Driver is given Optimum Time for Section. Any faster or slower will incur 1 penalty per second. Training does gates A, B, C. Prelim does Gates A-D.

  • Training: Obstacles are considered part of the course and are not timed, but must be driven correctly or the driver will be penalized. No cantering. 
  • Prelim: Obstacles will be timed. Prelim may canter in hazard only. Time will be converted to penalties and added to any pace penalties.
